STAGE is set for the Goys President Showjumping Championship starting today at 3pm at the Equestrian and Horseracing Club premises in Sakhir.

To be organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef), the two-day event consists of six classes with three to be held today and three tomorrow.

Today’s classes will be open to adults and includes the main contest for Goys President Cup.

The first Intermediate Class will see fences of over 90cm height, to be followed by the Open Class which is over 110cm-height fences.

A total of 13 riders will go head to head in the Grand Prix Class for Goys President Cup which has fences reaching up to 130cm.

Among top riders taking part in the championship are veteran Abbas Isa Al Ghuraifi and Sami Ghazwan besides other talents like Hussain Al Daylami anfd Fuad Mohammed.

Al Ghuraifi, taking part with three horses - Pascal, Habi and Colorado - tipped Ghazwan to win the Grand Prix Class due to the abilities of his horse besides the vast experience that he has in such competitions.

Al Ghuraifi, who represented Bahrain in the Kingdom of Bahrain Showjumping Championship last month at the same venue, thanked Breef president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his continued support to the Bahraini riders.

Mohammed, who had a short preparation programme for the event, will take part in both the Intermediate and Grand Prix Classes.

Riding Classic, the Al Salam Riding School Stable rider said he is confident of taking one of the top three positions in either classes.

Hussain Al Bosta, another experienced rider, is also regarded as one of the hot riders to clinch one of the first two classes today. Al Bosta, who will not participate in the Grand Prix, is expected to compete with his horse Muhajer whom her steered to win the previous championship held two weeks ago.

Al Daylami said he is confident with the abilities of his horse Marcaela in the Grand Prix Class.
